Become a Referee in New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association oversees high school sports in the state of NH. These sports include baseball, basketball, football, soccer, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, softball, track, volleyball and wrestling.

Starting the process to become a sports official is fairly simple. Each sport has a single contact person to help you get going. Click here to find the contact person for the sport that you want to officiate.

Testing is done through ArbiterSports and is only available at certain times of the year, depending on the sport you choose. Should you decide to become certified, don’t delay registering for the online test. If you miss the testing period, you will need to wait until the next season to register.

NH Referee and Umpire Training

The training needed to become an NHIAA sports official is handled by state boards and associations. Each sport has a single board of officials which helps you through the certification process. The training will involve classroom time to help you with the rules of your sport. It will also require time on the court or field to help you learn the positions, calls and signals of your sport.

Unlike most states which charge multiple fees, New Hampshire referees and umpires pay just a single yearly registration fee, regardless of how many sports they officiate. As of this writing, the fee is set at $65.
